FAQs

How should I prepare my clay for drop-off?

All clay should be wrapped in plastic bags or sealed in buckets or containers to prevent leaks and drying. Clay must be soft or damp, not bone-dry or rock-hard. Extremely dry trimmings or hard chunks can damage the pugmill and may not be accepted.

What kind of containers or bags should I use?

For smaller orders, plastic bags are fine as long as they’re sealed and easy to lift. For larger orders, 5-gallon buckets or heavy-duty containers are preferred — they keep the clay organized, prevent leaks, and make it easier to weigh and process multiple batches from different customers.

Can I include trimmings or slaked scraps?

Yes, as long as the material is wet or pliable. If you have completely dry trimmings, rehydrate them in a bucket of water for 24–48 hours before drop-off to make sure they blend smoothly during pugging.

How big will my reclaimed logs be?

Your pugged clay will be returned in smooth, 3-inch-diameter logs, typically about 10–12 inches long each. (The “3-inch” refers to diameter, not length.)

Do I need to add fresh clay or ball clay?

No — every reclaim batch includes a small amount of ball clay to ensure full plasticity and smooth texture. You’ll receive 100% of your original weight in usable, ready-to-wedge clay.

How long does it take?

The standard turnaround is 3–5 days after drop-off. Rush service is available for 48-hour turnaround at an additional fee.

When can I drop off and pick up?

Drop-offs are available Monday through Wednesday, 9 AM – 3 PM.
Pickups occur on Thursdays or after your batch has been processed. Once weekly slots are full, bookings roll over to the following week.

Should I label my clay?

Yes, please label each bag or container clearly with your name so your batch stays organized and correctly returned.

What happens if my clay is contaminated or too dry?

If your clay includes foreign objects (tools, glaze, plaster, debris) or arrives completely dry, it will not be processed. A $200 cleaning fee will be charged if foreign materials cause equipment damage or require deep cleaning.
It is the client’s responsibility to ensure all clay is properly prepared and ready for pugging before drop-off.

Can I get delivery or pickup service?

Yes, local delivery and pickup options are available for an additional fee. You can select this add-on during booking or email to arrange details.

Disclaimer: Pugit is not responsible for clay that contains foreign objects or contaminants. Improperly prepared clay will not be processed and may result in additional fees. Please double-check your materials before drop-off to ensure a clean and efficient reclaim process.
